Main Memory

Memory is an essential component in the computer system, more efficiently if extra storage is added to the System.

The total memory occupies the central position and can communicate directly with the CPU and with auxiliary memory through an I/O processor.

The cache is used to increase the speed of processing by making the required data and instructions available to the CPU at a rapid rate. Also, the speed of the CPU  is more than that of the main memory.

I/O Processor manages data transfer between auxiliary memory and main memory.

Cache manages between main memory and CPU.

CPU has direct access to main and cache but not to auxiliary memory.

The speed of cache memory is 7 times faster than the main memory.
